Started reloading yesterday and had a long hard look at this new to me
BLR81.
It is in remarkable shape.
What is offered out there for a replacement stock?
I think this gal deserves to put the original wood away for the time being.
I treat my rifle/shotguns like tools and use them without a care in the world.
Ding, oh well. Scratch, needed one there.
Maybe I'm just getting old and have come to respect a fine lever?
Give it to the pup for an hour or so just to make it worthy of the bush?
I appreciate nice shiney things, especially when they belong to someone else.
And you know humor is accepted.........:p
Cheers all.
Cut sum tags...........

I wonder if the grey laminate will fit the steel receiver BLR? I'm not sure but think the alloy ones are a bit thicker, they look it to me. That would dress her up. Not sure if Browning sells them aftermarket. I saw a few a couple of years ago up north, stainless with grey laminate BLR 81's with the alloy receiver.

Check around at dealers to see if they have any original BLR furniture that will fit yours. I just saw some sell on the EE parts section for $50. I thought about buying it but it sold very quickly. Put a wanted ad up, you never know who has parts laying around. That way the original stays nice and clean and the BLR still looks great. Check on gunbroker to. Personally, I don't like the laminate/synthetic look. A beautiful rifle like that deserves some nice walnut furniture.

This post deserves a photo.
Just up loaded to photophuckit.......

Yes, I enjoy the fifty mill objective.
This one is a 4200 Elite in 2.5X10X50.
Scares me how clear it is.
For weight, it feels almost the same as my Marlin 336 in 30-30 with
an old Redfield 2X7X32.
One in one hand and the other in t'other.
Close..............:p

Have at Boyd's gunstocks, not sure what they have for the 81, but won't hurt to look.

Wow that is a good looking rifle. That's a great set-up you have. I would like to add a BLR in .358 to my collection some day. Good luck this season:cheers:

Kam.... you ever consider stripping the factory stock to make it low luster? The high gloss finish on those 81s really shows up scuffs, but they are nice pieces of walnut. I was going to strip mine for low luster, pakerize everything and chop to 18.5", to make an extreme bush carbine. That was forgotten and I sold it to my hunting partner.:( when I do get the cash for another BLR81, i'll probaly get the .358, for something different, though i feel the .308 is superior.

Have no fear lilsurfer................:D
Don't forget the original question.
This is a great looking BLR.
I took a bunch of laps around the tables and
we left the Salmon Arm gun show for a coffee to
talk about this gal.
My one buddy tossed some $ on the counter for me for
the I.O.U. he owed. It was the difference in the offer and
the sellers lowered price. Given I just settled my accident claim
of over two years, I figured a reward to me was in place. :bigHug:
She came home with me.
No regrets so far.
Just need to pull the trigger. I loaded some different grains of IMR4320
up and need to make a trip to the Salmon Arm range.
Rumor has it there is a shooting match on order.:p
One of our sponors here on Nutzs has a real sweetheart hanging on
his wall. A twin to this one.
His shop is in Vernon.
Cheers all.
