Good day everyone,

I bought a Russian SKS 1953r, glad I did! :) I'm just curious to know why it has a blued bolt? The bolt carrier is still grey, but the bolt is blued. Does it changes anything performance-wise?

It shoots into space if you aim at the sky.
 
Mine's bot a blued bolt and functions flawlessly. I think the Russians blued the bolts for storage purposes. I don't think you have anything to worry about, but you can always strip the bluing off if you want.
 
Only small drawback I see is that fouling would be harder to detect visually since they are both close to dark gray/slate in colour. A non issue really, especially if you bathe or boil your bolt when cleaning.
 
The guy at the counter said it created extra friction on the bolt to have it blued. I know cosmoline does, and was skeptical about his statement but I still wanted to ask just in case. If it doesn't change anything I will leave it as it is. Thank you guys.
 
The guy on the counter is an idiot. Next time you're in there ask him if he thinks a blued pistol slide does the same thing.
Cosmoline doesn't cause friction either. Cosmoline is just thick petroleum jelly put on to prevent rust during long term storage. It needs to come off before you shoot. Like grease, it'll attract dust etc. that will cause premature wear and, in cold weather, can stop the rifle from operating altogether. Comes off with Varsol.

Just did that to my SKS. It feels better now. I dumped all metal parts in varsol and left it there for a few minutes, cleaned it off then oiled all the parts. You can see the difference without the cosmoline to the touch and finnish.
