I was reading about reduced loads with Blue Dot on the Calhoon site and was interested to see if anybody has tried this or other reduced loads for the 223.

Cheers---Ken

I have.

Go the the accurate reloading forums. Do a search there, a gentleman that goes by the name "seafire" has posted scads of info using bluedot, for the 223 and many other cartridges also.

Blue dot loads as per Calhoon are my gopher getters. 12FV in .223 excellent performance with V-max and Calhoon's own. A lot less noisy than a full on load and the barrel just doesn't get that warm even when the gophers seem bent on suicidal rodent wave attacks. At 13 gr per load, that's a lot of shooting in a one pound container.

I did some loads with Blue dot in my LVSF 223

12 grains of Bluedot with a 40 grain bullet did 2980 fps avg, and could be considered close to max. 5 grains of Bluedot would do 1450 fps avg.

with a 50 grainer, 12 grains of Bluedot would do 2730 fps

Its nice for low noise shooting, especially a load with 5-7 grains of powder.

Yep. I tried 13gr behind a 50grSPSX. Seemed OK until they sat out in the sun. Then I popped a primer. Bluedot did seem amazingly consistant though, for a pistol powder in a rifle case.
