I am trying to find a breeder for a Blue Lacy dog...having a REALLY hard time finding one. This dog is going to be used for hunting. I know the general population on CGN seems to love dogs so anyone know of any breeders in Ontario or at least Cananda?

Thanks, UTAF

From the internet: more of a herding dog than a hunting dog? Looks lclose to a blue/grey phase weimaraner. Size and markings different.

The Blue Lacy originated in Texas in the mid 1800s and is now recognized as the official state dog breed of Texas. The breed is named after the Lacy brothers of Burnet County, Texas. It is a mixture of a scent hound, Greyhound and coyote, or so the Lacys say. It has fairly strong herding instincts and is a hard working breed.

The Blue Lacy usually has a slate gray coat that is tight and smooth. The coat can sometimes be red or cream, and most Blue Lacy coats have white markings on their lower chest and paws. The breed stands from 18 to 25 inches tall and weighs 25 to 50 pounds.

The Blue Lacy can be an indoor or outdoor family pet, and although it is a working breed, it does not have to be occupied in order to not be destructive. However, the Lacy should still be exercised daily. The Lacy is easy to train and should be trained gently; the breed does not respond well to loud or harsh reprimands.

The Lacy can live around 15 to 16 years, and remain active. The breed has no known genetic problems and is very resilient.

The are medium sized dogs used for hog hunting, coyate hunting and following blood trials. They have a predator drive to chase and catch animals that has been breed out of alot of dogs. They work well in groups and are very smart dogs. Also very good for hearding cattle.

Are you allowed to use dogs for hunting yotes in Ontario? I know you can use them for deer in some areas there, but I have no idea about other animals.

AB does not allow you to use dogs for hunting anything except birds and cougars (and bunnies). You are not even allowed to take your dog with you, on a leash or not, while hunting big game here. At least in BC you could take your dog, it just had to be on a leash so it was not chasing.

Kind of sucks that I have leave my dog in the truck while I sit along a fenceline until dark. It would be nice to have company.

You can run coyotes, fox, coon, deer, rabbit and bear with hounds in Ontario. I haven't checked but I'm pretty sure that dogs can be used on moose too. I have good buddies who raise and run Walkers on coyote, and Blue Ticks and Plotts on coon and bear.
