Im about to start loading Alliant Bluedot in the 223 Remington with 40 grain Barnes Varmin-A-Tors

should do around 2900 fps with 12 grains of powder, and make for a nice quiet close range coyote load for settled areas where loud muzzle blasts arent wanted

I tried it last spring, think I was using 13.0 gr with 50gr bullets. (don't quote that, my data is not handy at the moment). Works great.

See? I was wrong about the data. :D http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27315&highlight=bluedot for mor info.

One thing I noticed, if you are going to load on the warm side make sure you weigh each charge. Once you get to a certain point, pressures seem to increase rapidly with a small increase in powder. At least that's what it seemed to me.

Ive loaded some rounds and will report back with the range results

decided to try some 40 gr. Vmax also, as well as some 50 SXSP & TnT

pouder,

I am shooting my Remington m700 223. It was the LVSF model with the stainless-fluted 22" tube in a Bell & Carlson fiberglass stock. I changed the stock to a VLS laminate, which beefed the weight up about a pound, but it is very stable now from the bench. Topped with a Burris FullField II 3-9x40mm with the Ballistic Plex reticle.

A really nice rifle, I enjoy this one alot.

I tried some BlueDot loads today, and I like them. Very quiet compared to full power 223 loads, and they are accurate enough for moderate range plinking.

here's my chrony results :

m700 LVSF 223 Remington w/ 22" barrel

40 gr. Barnes Varmin-A-Tor over 12.0 grs. Bluedot (WSR primer, F-C case) ~ 2962 fps

40 gr. Hornady Vmax over 12.0 grs. Bluedot (WSR primer, F-C case) ~ 2978 fps

50 gr. Hornady SXSP
over 12.0 grs. Bluedot (WSR primer, F-C case) ~ 2735 fps

50 gr. Speer TnT
over 12.0 grs. Bluedot (WSR primer, F-C case) ~ 2729 fps

Im gonna load some more up and try them out on coyotes, should be good out to 150 yards or so (they hit 1-2" lower than my regular 223 loads at 100 yards)
