This rifle was posted a little while ago. a fellow member MXZXops found it. I helped authenticate it for him, and expressed interest should he wish to sell. He offered it up, I didn't hesitate. Nice condition large font bnz44 Kriegsmodell. With a very interesting barrel. An FN barrel this late in uncommon.

I just found the forum really slow lately so I figured Id post as most guys here dont frequent my other haunts.

Wow! Another one of "them old army rifles with some kind of oddball ammunition" :p

That is one gorgeous rifle! :xes

Thanks for sharing!

Why do I suspect that rifle was issued to a Volkssturm member who surrendered to the Allies first chance he got?? :d:d:d

The rifle is in awesome shape though!!!!

Can a Mauser expert tell us why there's no bayo lug on the front band?

First off Andrew that is a gorgeous rifle, congrats on new acquisition, definitely at home as part of great collection

I'm not an expert but that's known as a kriegsmodell (km). Late war the third reich eliminated some features off the standard k98 (bayo lug, take down disk) to stream lime the manufacturing and assembling process

Pat is correct. Just a lot less materials and energy put into a rifle.
No cleaning Rod
No band spring
No bayo lug
No take down disc
Simlified gas holes in bolt
No guide rib on bolt
Slab style cocking piece
Rough unfinished bolt shroud
Fewer larger wood laminations.
And abbreviated numbering
Were all later war adjustments designed to apeed up production. Rifle wouldn't exhibit all of these traits, but some get a lot of them.
