Bobtail?

I've been reading a bit about 1911 recently, and people keep talking about Bobtail 1911. What's a Bobtail?

I've been looking around and googled it, but can't manage to find out what it is exactly or what's the diff between a normal 1911 vs a Bobtail.

a picture is worth a thousand words, so here ya go! Notice how the butt of the handgrip appears chopped or "bobbed"? That's a bobtail. The original purpose was to make a more concealable full-size framed 1911.
