I got my first Boer Mauser 1895 made in 1896 for ZAR. The entire rifle matches except the bolt and the cleaning rod. The bolt is an 1893 version, has a serial number 1280 without a letter prefix, and a German proof mark (on the right side of the serial number). I researched the bolt, if it is from a Boer order but cannot find an answer. Help with its identification.
Also, I would like to learn about its owner. There are only initials and that's why I think he will remain unknown forever.

Certainly looks like a bolt from a Boer rifle.
I have two Boer rifles, a Lowe and a DWM. AS Stent and TR Boshof. The Lowe has a matching bolt, the Boshof does not. I acquired the rifle without a bolt and was able to find a correct bolt. It is not unusual for rifles to be mismatched.
David George has published a 4 volume set Carvings From the Veldt, with a great deal of information about the Boers.

Contact SAAACA (South African arms and ammunition collectors association)

The surname after the initials would have been Van Der Merwe
