Clarify something pretty simple :yingyang: , please ?....

Were Boer Mausers in 7.65 Belgina/Argentine, in 7x57 Mauser, or both ?....cou:

I'm thinking the Boers first used Model 1889's, and then Model 1893/1895's?

Thanks in advance.

The government-order Mausers were only in 7x57. Prior to the Mausers they used Martinis, Guedes and Krags by and large. Ron Bester has written a great book on arms used in the conflict - "Small Arms of the Anglo-Boer War - 1899-1902"

All 7 x 57mm. All were essentially 1893 models with the flat bottom bolt, and are found marked Mod Mauser 1895, 1896 and 1897. I've had two Ludwig Loewe ZAR contracts, both marked 1896.

I have one marked OVS, the Orange Free State. Not the very best shape, but it was given to me by a Boer War Veteran a long time ago, so I keep it.
