I have a Boer War Mauser S/N B8### that has cut wood, uncut metal, mismatched bolt and poor bore. I also have an original Chilean Mauser with uncut wood, matching bolt, good bore, and cleaning rod.

Do I leave things as they are and dispose of the Boer War Mauser, or move the wood from the Chilean to the Boer and dispose of the sporter Chilean, or?????

If it's the boer I'm thinking of (Gunco?), it's a good candidate for a nice little tree stand rifle. It's never goiong to be worth anything again except as a nice action IMHO.

That Chilean is collectible in its own right.

I agree with claven, matching units should be left alone. Chileans in poor shape should not be all that hard to find if you want to make the boer look like a rifle again.

Yea - I got it at Gunco.

Thanks guys, my instincts were in agreement with yours, just wanted another opinion or two. The Chilean is pretty good, breaking it up seems too much like "bubba-fying" it and a wood set will show up if I am patient.

Yuo know andy, you ougt to have paid more for that second Boer sporter at that store - it had a rather nice bore and the sporterization actually looked decent, so you could use it in the meantime while you waited for wood - LOL.

Very good picture of Boer General Wette(?) in "Small Arms of the Anglo Boer War" with a sported Mauser, not a plezier geweer.
