I found out about a Boito SXS 12 gauge and was wondering what they are worth. Are they any good or are they cheaply made junk. The ad says that it is in good shape with a case and some ammunition for it. Any ideas? Thanks

boito sold shotguns that were imported under various brand and trade names.some were made in brazil and others in italy. they made two different style of sxs's.i can't find a listing for boito at all in gun digests book of values. boito manufactured the C.I.L. model 402 single shot and like most, it was an economy grade shotgun. how there sxs's stand up for quality and value i have no idea.sorry

I might just take the risk and get it. It is $100 plus shipping with a case and ammunition so it might be alright. Im not looking for top of the line just something that wont be too bad to take out and do some small game hunting with.

I hesitate to say anything negative, especially in general terms, about any make. However, clearly some are better than others.

I've always been of the opinion that ANY shotgun that is half decently reliable will get the job done, but that some are more suited to a given purpose than others.

Given the above, the question becomes "Is it suited for my purpose, and, is it priced appropriately?"

You can tell by the asking price that even the seller doesn't consider this piece to be valuable in any way. If your expectation is that this could be a viable "starter" field gun, you should be okay. Don't buy it if you're looking for a gun to last a lifetime.

You may wish to find out how much shipping may cost - firearm + case (assuming you meant flat?) of ammo......i.e. should that be from outside your Province.

Recently, I needed to ship a very small package (couple knives only) from ON to Nunuvut - cost to me was over $35 Xpresspost.

Just wanted to give you a heads up because for example, for $275 there is a Stoeger Uplander sxs that I noticed being advertised in the EE. There was also a nice looking Laurona sxs for $400? I believe (asking price) Another, new looking Goro (Boito?) sxs also surface in the EE from time to time (again asking price $400 if memory serves).....perhaps there may be room for negotiations on those offers?

Please disregard my mention of the ammo flat......I gotta read posts more carefully :)

I'm not looking for something to last a lifetime by no means. I'm more or less looking for just a really cheap SXS to figure out if I like the feel of them or not. If I do I can always sell it off and buy something nicer.

I had a Boito O/U that never failed me. Was given to me as a teenager and was used a fair bit at the start. Sad but true it sat in the safe for years when I went on a tactical spree and was sold to another CGNer. Solid guns but not fancy by any means. A good choice if money is a concern.
