Would anyone know of a Canadian source that sells or can get a Bold trigger for a 98 Mauser? The Bold trigger is a Boyds product. I am looking to install it in a J C Higgins model 50, and from what I read there will be a need to remove some stock material to make it fit as the Model 50 trigger is part of the trigger guard. Has anyone done this install before and did you have to relieve the trigger guard as well?

Regards, Bill

IIRC the Model 50 and the Mauser 98 triggers are different. The BOLD may sit too far forward, but can be tried. You may have to hog out some metal in the trigger bow as well, or replace it with a Mauser 98 trigger guard (military or commercial). I have both at home as well as a BOLD OP-98 that you can try.

The Bold and the timney will fit, with modification to the stock. I have read that you can still use the Model 50/51 trigger guard, but there was no mention if it needed to be relieved.

Thanks Chris, this one is missing the small spring that sits between the trigger and the guard, so at the moment it is out of service.

Chris, the heavier shorter spring worked perfect as it was, trigger cleanly breaks at about 2 lbs. Thanks for the quick assistance!

I also got the safety functional, it is still a little stiff to engage, but works like a charm now!

I have spoken to this fellow about bold triggers - he carried them, just did not happen to have one that would fit my parker hale with the side safety at the time. he's in the vancouver area

I must have been mistaken, I thought trigger groups fell under the US Export laws like firearms and ammo or supplies.

Bringing this one back to life...

Just received a Boyd's stock for my Model 50, trigger do not fit anymore and can not be inletted to fit as it will remove the installed crossbolt. I have another Military Style trigger that will work, but it is on the heavy side. Considering a Timney trigger or I SHOULD have added the Bold to my order when I ordered the stock. Trigger and shipping for just the trigger will be more than if I order a Timney Sportsman in Canada. Did anyone here install a Timney Sportsman M98 style in a Boyd's Stock? Was there much inletting to do?
