Where can I buy a factory built bolt action 45-70 for under $1000? I am very interested in this chambering but prefer bolts over levers. Who manufactures them?

Don't see many bolt actions for rimmed cartridges such as the 45/70 because if the cartridge gets inserted with the rim behind the cartridge's rim underneath, you usually get a jam or fail to feed. I dont recall seeing too many , and I am having a hard time thinking of even one being made today.
I could see the rotary magazine on the rugers being a way to solve that problem.

There are some bolt action 45/70
s out there. I know soe have been made form SMLE's, even. But I dont' know of any current factory made rifles.

Honestly, the best way to get 45/70 performance form a bolt gun is to buy a .458 WM and load it down a bit.:)

You will be hard pressed to find a Gibbs rifle in canada for sale, if at all. I thought about bringing in one in from the US last year. Ive also read up they had quite a few problems. Easier to find a Gunsmith who will convert an enfield for you. Trouble is finding or making a mag assy.

Looking back on it I should of imported the Gibbs because I sent an enfield to a gunsmith who had advertised this very conversion in BC. He has since disapeared with the rifle and money I sent for a barrel.......

Theres a stainless bolt 45-70 listed on EE.

For Sale
45-70, sythentic stock, 24 1/2 inch stainless barrel, 4-shot clip, by Clobco Arms. Comes with a 2x5x20 Aimmaster Scope, fixed recticle, very good shooter, 20percent higher loads than Marlin lever actions, $600.00 shipped.

I just had one built up from an Enfield action, and just gotta get the dough to Questar to get it up here from the US for me.

Looks like its gonna be a slick rifle. My builder kept as much of the Enfield forestock top and bottom as he could. And didn't cost too much to do either. You can find just an action and a suitable barrel really cheap if you sniff around. It's cost of labour that adds up, but that depends on how much work you want put into it. I would wager you could just get it done up in Canada real fast.

If I remember, the extractor was good to go, but the mag follower and the ejector needed a tune.

I think they are built on Mosin Nagants and Siamese Mausers sometimes too?

Pathfinder, sorry to hear about you getting screwed man!!! That's awful!

Gibbs quit bubbfying Lee-Enfields last year. Gibbs' site is gone too.
Your options for a .45-70 rifle are a lever action or a single shot. There are no new bolt action .45-70's. No demand.
