I saw a Mossberg .410 for sale in bolt action.
Does anybody have any experiences with one?
I wonder if this would be a good little grouse gun?
Opinions welcomed!

Planning something like this? I always thought the 'sniper shotgun' was a joke but apparently Israel uses them.

Not really.

There is a used one I caught wind of for $100 that I am considering.... I am not much of a gun nut, more of a hunting nut, so I don't want to be messing around with the shotgun and fixing it, much rather be out chasing birds with it.
Just wondering if this is a worthy purchase or am I better of just finding a break action .410 instead?

The Mossberg bolt actions have a decent reputation, and it's hard to go wrong for $100, assuming it's in serviceable condition

Been using them for years for grouse while moose hunting with no problems. Like Prosper said depends on what shape it is. I like my break action Ruko single because it is light.

Have a 183 DB with the screw on choke (paid $100) and an 183 KA with the Polychoke (paid $129) both intended for this year's grouse season.
Nice little rifles, havn't shot the KA yet, the DB is fun, easy to handle, reasonably accurate. A bit tricky to load the internal magazine and sometimes it misfeeds but I think that's more me than the gun.
For a wee bit more you could buy a new single shot 410 but these old Mossy's are kinda neat and the 3 shot capability is a bonus.
Buy it.

Ive got a Lakefield-mossberg .410 bolt. I don't rember the model but i'll check after.

anyway it's an excellent gun. Never had a problem with it what so ever and my dad bought it used back in the 80's so i think they stand up quite well.

However they have very short range. I bought a box of .410 slugs im going to try out in it this weekend. i'll let ya know how that goes.

I have a Cooey single shot .410 that I favour for grouse 'cause it is so small and light and loads so fast.

If you don't mind the bolt, (and it's nice to have a repeater if you're actually grouse "hunting" and not opportunistically shooting road chickens) it's a working gun. I've got a Mossberg bolt action12 guage

My buddy had one and traded it for a single shot 20 ga. He said he'd shoot a grouse and feathers flew, as well as the bird. Now he drops 'em with the twenty. For a little more $$ you could buy a new single in any gauge.

Pattern, pattern, pattern.

Figure out where your 410 shoots and you'll kill grouse with it rather than wounding it with the edge of the pattern.

Mine is a bit high so I compensate
