I picked up an old 12 guage mossberg bolt action shot gun, specifically for deer hunting .One issue is loading the 2 shot magazine-the second shell hangs up on regular brass length,it needs longer brass length for the second shell to load. The other issue is attempting to load the first shotshell into the chamber-the front of the shell needs to be angled up in order to go into the chamber,or it just won't load. The following shell seems to cycle ok.Not sure what to do,maybe slightly bend the front of the magazine.Anybody else had these issues, and what did you do to rectify it?

I have a mossberg bolt 12. The right "wing" or "tab" (part that held the shells in place at the rear) at the back of the mag was bent out of round causing feeding issues. If you look at the rear of the mag you can see that the 2 little tabs on the side should be rounded to curve around the shell. I had to tinker with the little tab, bending it until it fed properly.

I have an old Mossberg bolt 12ga myself and have had similar problems. As 1300 Stainless suggested, "tinkering" is probably the best way to describe resetting the top of the magazine. Patience is a required tool in this case. And please tell me this isn't one of the old Mossberg bolt actions that had the C-lect choke. (395KL, etc) Those barrels tended to be a bit thin and throwing a slug down that barrel sometimes caused a rather violent disagreement with the choke.

I tried modifying the clips on the magazine and it does improve the feeding issues, funny,I have a 20 guage bolt action and it feeds very slick-but the 12 guage seems more finicky, the first shell just doesn't seem to cant up at the right angle to go into the chamber, but the second one does.

I know bolt action shotguns are not reguarded as highly as slide actions[reflected in the price-about the same price as a single ]but for deer hunting,I think they would be quite serviceable-if I can them feeding right.
