So, trying to assemble my new bolt but I'm having a problem getting the extractor over the plunger. The spring is crazy stiff and wants to bend over when the extractor contacts the plunger rather than press down. Between trying to hold in the ejector and get the extractor in I need two more hands.

In the videos I've watched the hard part seems to be getting the ejector down and the extractor seems to pop right in. Is there a trick here?

I'm guessing your referring to an M14 bolt? Yes there is a cutout in the ejector that the extractor tab fits through and holds the whole assembly together. You have to compress the ejector and spring in far enough for the extractor to fit. This is pretty difficult to do by hand, I have the disassembly tool from Brownells which makes it much easier. Don't know any other tricks sorry..

Yeah sorry, that would be an M14 bolt :)

I can get the ejector in far enough, its the extractor spring that causes me the issue. Was hoping to do this without a tool.

Ah yes I see now. Honestly that sounds strange why it wouldn't just pop in over the extractor spring, you don't need a tool for that part. As long as your ejector is compressed in far enough, the extractor should go right in.

Use a small flat blade screw driver and depress the detent as you push down on the extractor. It's been done this way for eons hehehe

I figured as much. That's why I said I feel like I need a three or four hands. It's a bit of a juggle trying to manage all that and not launch the springs and assorted pieces.

I can see why the bolt tools are popular :)

I just had one fly apart on me and I lost the ejector. Order a few spares and an assembly tool. The other option is to use a 30-06 empty casing and assemble the bolt while in the rifle. Plenty of youtube vids on it. It gives you that third hand. Also you can cut a coil or two off of the detent spring so it is not quite so strong (as I have read).

Any quick link to a cheap bolt tool.. In the same boat as OP. I will try the 30-06 casing tmrw.. Been three hours and im sickof trying
