Bolt Buffer

This may be opening a can of worms with differing opinions but:
I have read that a bolt buffer is needed if not at least useful, so I would like comments or told where to go... to look.
I shoot Remington 150 FMJ so, after adding a new operating guide rod plus the spring, what say you people.
This is a great site and many thanks to all who give advice..

I dont think a bolt buffer is needed, i feel like its just a gimmick. Please M14 guru, highlight us:)

If I recall correctly, the buffer will cause the op rod to stop its rearward travel on the bolt roller as opposed to square on the receiver. Wouldn't use it myself.

This strange as we use bolt bufers on 1911 pistols and several shotguns. They work there why no tin an M14 variant????

First there's no such thing as a M14 bolt buffer. The recoil buffer goes around the recoil spring against the receiver. So it's an oprod buffer.

On a M14 firing normally, the oprod hit the receiver and the bolt heel hit the rear of receiver, about the same time, independantly. If you add a recoil buffer in front of the receiver, the bolt will now be stopped by the bolt roller instead of it's heel. It was not designed for this.
The M14 is designed to shoot tens of thousands of rounds without recoil buffer. That's enough for me. If you want to shoot heavy bullets or stonger loads there are different solutions.

The Mini-14 recoil buffer works in the same incorrect way.

OP: I have one, but just because I HAVE one ;)

Have done comparisons between having one and not, and I have found no evidence that they do anything.

Yeah, I still run it :p

Now, do I have one on my G34 9mm....yes....does it work? Yeah, it does.

On a .308, only God knows......
 
From what I understand they cause more issues than they solve. By the sound of it they don't solve much. Don't waste your money.
