Thought I'd ask here before taking it in to the only gunsmith in Regina.
Out today with my Savage 342 22 hornet. All was good until the last few rounds. I had 3 out of 5 failures to extract, I tapped out the cases with my cleaning rod. Never happened before, but I blamed the cold and maybe a dirty chamber.
Then I closed the bolt and squeezed the trigger. Nothing. No click, no bang, the trigger just went back. It did feel a little squishy.
What do you guys think? Broken spring, dirty firing pin? I have no clue.
Thanks for any insight/advice.
Cheers,
Dean

Too heavy an oil, in the bolt during cold weather could be the case. Try again on an empty chamber after you get home and it warms up. Otherwise l would speculate on a broken spring.

I agree. Let it warm up, take it out of the stock, dump some lighter fluid into it. This will clean it and leave just the right amount of lube needed for a trigger.

I've seen this happen when someone uses WD-40 as a bolt/trigger lube, the stuff turns gummy even without the cold. I use lighter fluid to clean and lubricate triggers and synthetic gun oil to lightly lube the bolt and raceways.
