Bolt extractor problem.

I pulled my bolt apart, cleaned it, etc and put it back together again. Went smoothly but now I can't move (pivot) the extractor! I tried to move it on my Garand and it takes some force and it is swings smoothly. The M305B extractor doesn't move at all. I used a magnifier and it almost looks like the spring is bent or something. BTW I used a bolt tool. I tried to remove the extractor but it will not move more than half way out! Any ideas or just email Marstar.

Disassemble again and inspect. Check the little extractor spring to see if perhaps when you re-assembled, you might have forced the extractor on, and the spring did not set properly in the little dimple (on the extractor itself). It is fairly tight in there, so unless you really reefed on it or forced the extractor on using a hammer or pliers, it should be good. My spring is really stiff too, if it's any consolation.

Maybe before dis-assembly, load (chamber) a snap cap or dummy round and pull back fully on the oprod. If the round ejects, then should be good.

If you need a spring, you can order from Brownells, and will arrive in a week. I doubt Marstar will warranty if you damaged the spring on re-assembly. Just my opinion.

Good luck

Mine was soo stiff I mangled the spring tying to re-assemble. After cutting off the mangled coils it assembled much easier and still functioned reliably.

I believe this is one of Hungry's approved tricks.

Bolt extractor problem solved!

I had a good look at the extractor with a magnifier and noticed that the spring was really distorted and the plunger was bent. I had to resort to a hammer and pin punch to get the bolt apart. One of those 3 hands required moments. I ordered a bolt kit from TreelineM14 (great stuff BTW) and the bolt went together like butter. The “ramp” that pushes the spring and plunger is much smoother on the Treeline with a nice transition to the plunger hole. The hole on the extractor is not as deep but with smoother edges. The hole that receives the plunger on the Chinese extractor is sharp edged and slightly deeper. The depth of the hole and the sharp edge on the Chinese extractor must have grabbed the plunger and didn’t let it move out and the plunger got bent. The pictures speak for themselves…

Like Mike said the spring on the Norinco's are longer and need to be trimmed a bit when you pull a bolt apart. Even with a bolt tool I have a hard time putting one back together without trimming. The bolt is fine....just replace the guts with USGI or aftermarket - good to go!
