I have a pre 64 model 70 action that I would like to build a semi custom rifle on. Problem is, it started its life as a 30govt 6, and was re chambered to 300 win mag some time in its life. The bolt face was opened up?? for the 300 conversion?? I want to build a 338-06 or 35 whelan on this, if that is possible? Of course I will be putting on a new barrel, chambered appropriately for the chosen cart. If the bolt is ruined, can I fix it, or do I look for a new bolt? Please help a fellow out. Thanks CGN!! I may be mistaken, but wasn’t the -06 a standard length action? Would it have been modified to feed a 300 WM? (Magazine, feed lips). If so, it may be alot of work going back to feeding -06 based cartridge?

Sell it, buy what you need. It is not really feasible to try and convert it back... bolt face, extractor, action rails, etc.

Although you could try and see how 30-06 shells feed from the magazine... if the magazine and action feeds 06 shells, then you would only need a bolt.

The solution I'd go for is to build a 300H&H ... or a 375H&H

Then find something else to build your 338-06 on.
