Bolt Face Sizes

NO problem at all, they are for all purposes the same bolt face... however the 'rails' are different and I doubt the 300 Win will stay in the magazine and feed properly... very easy to test it at this stage...

I'm looking to convert a 300 RUM to a 300 win mag. The bolt face size on the RUM is .534" and the win mag is listed at .532". Is this a problem?

Agree with guntech's comments. Here are some drawings to compare the two cartridge sizes:

300 WM

The 300 RUM is a rebated rim where the rim is smaller than the body. So while the rim sizes of the two cartridges are the same size the RUM has a fatter body. You may be able to switch to the 300 WSM if you were looking downsize in case capacity. It has the fat body, but a much shorter case so good feeding may not be a given either. And if you were looking to use a cartridge which is more commonly available, that change could be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire... In any case here is a drawing of the 300 WSM:

One can always buy a Wyatt magazine box and follower. It works as a bottom load and the magazine box has lips that hold the cartridge in place.
