I have target rifle, Sportco 44 by Omark, Australia, in 308 Win cal for quite a while, now. First barrel got progresivly worse, after few thousand shots, so I rechambered it to 30/284, was good for another 1000 shots or so, and now is finished. I purchased second, premium Shults & Larsen barrel, which is super accurate, and I would like to save it, as long as possible. Sportco 44 bolt locks directly into the barrel. Barrel exchange is very easy. I would like, to use first barrel lockup, thread new barrel into it, let say in 223 Rem, and use it as varmint rifle. Bolt head is replaceble, unlike Savage's. My dylema ? is bolt head avaiable in 223 Rem size ? Long time ago, I heard it is. Anybody know any sources? or I am "stuck" with 22/250 or 225 Win?

MAB Engineering in Australia took over Sprotco production, I don't think they still make Sportco's but is might be a place to look for parts. Other than that, Bob Barwise from P.E.I was the Canadian for Sportco's for a while, but I have not heard or seen Bob for a few years. You might also want to try Paul Reiben at Range Sports Unlimited in Kamloops BC.

In the past, the breech end of Sportco barrels has been converted so that other barrels can be fitted, as you mention. Lloyd Nielsen in Australia used to make a breeching piece that did the same thing. The contacts suggested by maynard may be able to help with a .223 bolthead. If you could find another .308 head perhaps a reducing collar could be fitted, and a new extractor made.

i own a sportco 44 chambered in 223 was origonaly a 308 been rebarreled as you say and there has been a collar put into the bolt face to reduce the dia and a sako style extractor installed it works flawlesly
