bolt head steevens 200

Bolt heads they can ship to Canada. I ordered a recoil lug and a barrel wrench from them and asked about bolt heads. Lisa assured me (I asked twice about their export laws) that bolt head was no problem.

I have plans for a switch barrel rig in the future so I wanted to be sure what was available to me as a Canadian.

I have a right handed .223 bolt head from a project. What head size do you need? You might be able to turn this out to the right size, I'll check the hardness.

I've ordered two different bolt heads from them, as well as a tactical bolt handle and other stuff. No problems getting anything so far, and they can actually take a customer's .223 bolt head and open it to PPC size for a reasonable fee, so I figure the bolt head wouldn't be too hard for someone else to do it up here. Next on my list to order from them is one of those extended mag kits. Awesome products.

Erik.

scott I need a ppc sized bolt head I just ordered three steevens 200 from wholesale 3 days ago for project guns yesterday I bought a couple reamers one is 22 ppc so now I have to build one I already had some surplus brass and dies so I won't sleep good if I don't build one .Just wondering if sharp shooters make bottom metal and detachable mags that would feed 22ppc properly that would be the ticket.I am glad to here they ship t canada they have o lot of neet stuff.

Since you already have the ppc cases and a Savage bolt head to work with, try using a larger diameter ball in the extractor. About a week or two ago Fred decided to get to the bottom of all the ejection issues and discovered a larger ball fixed the issue almost every time. The extractor is held in postion much more consistantly which it is very important for ejection. He now uses a .140" diameter extractor ball instead of the .125" ball. I wouldn't #### around with the beryllium copper extractors but its simple to dremel and polish the steel extractors to fit a PPC even better but it isn't needed.

pei rob what I need is a smaller bolt face but I am curious about what you are saying about the ball.I will order a new bolt head ppc size so I am hoping it will extract properly.

For those readers that do not know, the 308 family has a case head size of .473" and the PPC has a head size of .445". The 308 extractor is not designed to reach in that far to grab the lip of the brass. The bolt head is larger than the case head by design, in the Savage bolt heads, its around .493". If the extractor is tuned well, it will work perfectly with the PPC and there is no need to get a custom PPC head made just for that. If you buy a customed head from SSS, it will have the lugs and face trued, radius removed for the washer reposition and a tuned ejector installed. You can also get a PPC extractor that is slightly modified to reach out a little further when used on a .473 head. The 223 head's extractor hole is closer to center and the PPC extractor is not needed. I do not know what extractor SSS offers with their PPC head but I would guess the unmodified steel version. Either way, I think SSS has switched to the .140" balls.

The .140" ball centers in the hole better and therefore holds the extractor in a more centered position. With the factory .125" ball, you can push the extractor back and forth about .020" and it will stay. Use a bigger ball and much of that slop is gone and inconsistant ejection with it.

SSS will fix you up.

Cheers,
Rob
