Hello. Im looking for input about modifying a bolt knob handle on a rem 783. I have a heavy barrel version with the nice tear drop style ball which is way nicer then the flat rem one on the basic rifle. Would it be best to grind the flat disc square then round it off and thread it and thread a ball to match or grind it square and slip a ball over the end and silver solder it in place?
Or just buy another heavy barreled rifle with the nicer factory knob and just eat the mark up in price to save the trouble
I
The action will be rebarreled

I'm a bit confused by your post. Are you saying you have two 783 rifles, one with each style bolt knob, and you want to change the crappy one?

You can definitely grind it round and thread with a die. Tedious work as you have to stop often to make sure you are not off center too much. I do it with handles I don’t have jig for.

I have a jig for Rem 783 pm me if you are interrested.
