i have not mod my bolt and i dont find any real reason to.

modifying the bolt will not allow the reg mag to drop down freely, you still have to mod the back of the mag that is held up by the trigger group, you may end screwing up the mag .

a mod bolt works better with a duck-bill detachable mag, it allows the removal of the detached mag from a closed bolt, esp handy when you have a FTF with a partially closed bolt, i have several detachable mags and i manage to use both hands to deal with that.

lastly , if yours factory 26 sks was made in the 60s (or earlier) and it has matching bolt and mag then definitely i wouldnt suggest you modify those parts but instead buy another bolt and mag to bugger up (thats if you have to modify).

I did my bolt mod this weekend. It took about an hour. It was great using detachable mag with it especially when it is cold and you have gloves on. Went hunting on Sunday and it was also a plus to have when you get out of the truck you just had to pop the mag back on.

You are right Curton, it does not work so well with the stock mag.

Why would a military factory spend all the time and effort on the original design if it was not a necessary safety item?
