I have a Tikka T3 .223 rifle and I took the bolt out of the action and when I tried putting it back in, it only went in halfway and it can't go in any further because the bolt needs to be turned. The back of the bolt needs to be turned. I am wondering if anyone knows how to solve this problem so I can shoot my gun again.

Thanks for your help.

Most bolt actions work on the same principle. Take the bolt out and look closely at it, you will see it needs to be turned in one direction so the sear will slide up the cocking cam. It will be stiff to turn, but that is what you need to do.

What I do is place the sear against a piece of light wood (wooden workbench), push down and turn the whole bolt at the same time until the sear engages the detent in the shroud. Be careful, the spring pressure is quite strong. You may have to do this a few times until you get it to engage, it may slip on you.

Fixed

Perfect, thanks for your help. I had to clamp it down and then take a pair of vice grips, pull the sear out and turn it. I just have to remember to not bump or hit the sear with the red dot on it is showing.

Thanks.
