I'm planning to use an M305 receiver to build an accurized DM style rifle using a krieger medium contour barrel and Sage EBR stock. I'm wondering if I actually need to replace the Norinco bolt? I know most people have done it in the past with TRW bolts or other USGI bolts but I've read that if you are replacing the barrel and having a gunsmith fit everything that replacing the bolt isn't necessary. Do I actually need to replace the norinco bolt? My goal is a 3/4 MOA rifle (consistantly).

The biggest problem with norc bolts is headspacing. If you are buying a krieger barrel, it will be short chambered. That means you should have enough material left to have the barrel headspaced off the existing bolt. Problem solved. You will always find the snobs who say the only thing you should have on a norc thats chinese is the receiver, but there are a lot of norcs out there that have pounded out a lot of ammo with no problems. Also, if you find a trg bolt down the line and feel the need, there should be enough material left (since the norcs generally have a few thou headspace issues) that you could put in the new bolt and headspace the barrel to it also. If the gun shoots good with the norc bolt you have saved yourself about $400

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll go ahead with my build using the Norinco bolt and see what happens. Worst case scenario I'll buy a USGI bolt. Thanks
