I recently took down a CIL 171 bolt for inspection resulting from light strikes. In the process of trying to reassemble the bolt the retaining spring broke. I am not sure if retaining spring is the right term. Its basically a wire that goes into a small hold in the bolt and you rotate the shroud pushing the wire into a small recession in the bolt body. After one full revolution a "curly q" fits into a round hole in the bolt to retain it. Its the weirdest system I've ever seen.

I am just wondering if I could construct a new one by straightening a spring?

Measure the wire diameter of the broken spring and order a roll of music wire. It's not that expensive and you will have about 100 yards to work with. Straightening an existing spring will be frustrating.
