Not sure if this is the right section but here goes. I bought a remington xr-100 a few weeks ago from a friend. The rifle has seen maybe 300 rounds. I know this has done it since new. About 70% of the time when loading a round the bolt will go foward nice and easy, but when bringing the bolt down it will be tough, far from smooth. Never knew what was causing it, just that it was a pain. Well I gave it a good cleaning last weekend and noticed brass slivers. Alot of them. Finally figured out the on most rounds the extractor is taking a small sliver out of the casing. Well I believe it is called the extractor. It is the small piece that grabs the lip of the shell and holds onto it when ejecting the round.
Now I am pretty sure this is not normal. Is there a fix without having to file or machine it down? Any advise or help is appriecated.
