Bolt with Irons and Detachable magazine

Hello,

I'm trying to find a Bolt, preferably in .308 could be .223 that has Irons and can take either AISCS magazines or has 10 round magazines, As I don't own AR15 magazines I don't want to get into that realm.

.223 or .308
10 Round Magazine
Iron Sights

To be used for hunting and as a main rifle.

I've found so many options that I don't know what is really the main difference or if i'm missing options.

Ruger Scout 16.1" stainless barrel with synthetic stock is my next buy, model 6829. Can't find it in stock in Canada at the moment. Would also love the same rifle in .223 and 7.62x39.
 
my choice if on a budget would be the mvp. if you can afford the ruger scout it is one very fine rifle. i own both and would be happy with either.
 
when chosing those rifles, what would I need to be able to use the irons without removing the sights?

The Ruger is quite pricey, and would need glass and rings which is probably an extra 500

MVP Patrol thoughts?
 
What do you mean by, “use the irons without removing the sights”? By “sights” do you mean an optic?

If so, with a scout rifle if you run a scope the idea is to have it in quick detach rings. That way you simply spin off the quick detach rings and BOOM, you’re back to your irons. Leupold says their QD rings should keep your point of impact (your zero) within 1/4” at 100 yards when removing and reinstalling the scope. My findings is it is at least close.

I have a savage 10 FCM scout (the older style) and quite like it. I run a vortex crossfire ii 2-7 scope on it. I will likely one day buck up and buy the Burris 2-7 because it has the ballistic reticle. The scout concept is not the best by any means, but it does have some nice features (both eyes open on low magnification gives you really good peripheral vision and a great field of view, with a floating crosshair).

I have handled the Mossbergs, I agree with others that they feel cheap.

I’d go with the Ruger or the Savage. The Ruger if you think you’ll fight a war with it and might have to use it as a club, the Savage if you’re just going to hunt / target shoot. Also, I don’t like single stack (aics) magazines. The Savage 11 scout (the one that came after the model 10 but before the model 110) has proprietary Savage 10 round mags that are double stack. Some like them, some don’t (they are expensive to buy), but at least your mag is shorter to hold the same amount of rounds.

I think co witness?

So with the Ruger I can run any AICS mags? I heard there are 20rnd Pro mag AICS magazines? those would work?
 
I have the MVP predator myself, no iron sights but will accept 10 round mags all day long. I personally think it has a much nicer stock than the Ruger Ranch.

You can get a mvp scout or patrol with iron sights in either calibre that your looking for.
 
I see, co witnessing. I’m not sure what you would need to do there? I think if you get a scope with small enough objective and ocular lens housings and low enough rings you might be able to co witness. I’ve never set up a rifle that way so I’m not well vexed in that.

Yes, the gunsite scout takes aics mags.
