Tried all my mags this morning, everything drops free with ease. MDI fixed the issue with the rounded corners on the uppers. Only 1 issue with the receiver, I had to run a bit through the safety and trigger box as it was slightly under-spec. The anodizing is well done, it's a very "dry" looking finish as has been mentioned here before. The receiver set is from the latest batch and is a high 400's serial number.

Dang that V7 handguard was a PITA to install properly with correct barrel nut torque and getting the rail aligned properly, its so tight on the barrel nut you have to tap it on and off with a plastic mallet. Its magnesium alloy so it also is more prone to chipping than aluminum, but it is very light and pretty rigid. I still prefer SLR and Geissele rails but this one was cool to try out, got it on sale from Brownells.

Will get an accurate weight on it this morning and do a bit of preliminary accuracy testing this evening. Barrel is the Rise Armament 18.5" (they call it 18.8", but it ain't, I measured it at exactly 471 mm) 416 SS, 1:7 twist, 223 Wylde chamber, M4 feed ramps, and it weighs 1.8 lbs. BCG is the Brownells Lightweight Ti-N and I'm running standard buffer and spring with an SLR adjustable gas block. Geissele SSA-E and a PWS Mod 2 buffer tube.

Edit: Bare rifle weighs 5 lb 13 oz and with the optic it's 6 lb 14 oz.

All said and done it's around 5.8-6.0 lbs but I'll get a more accurate number later today. Didn't get too crazy with light or expensive stuff, I just tried to keep price in reason and buy stuff on sale. I kept track of every dollar including import costs, taxes etc and total build cost was $2970.

Damn that looks slick! When’s the first range trip?

Hoping to get some rounds through it tonight, might not get all the way to accuracy testing but at least function testing. The nice thing about Non-Restricted AR's is I can walk about 5 min from my office door at work and go ham, maybe even drop a coyote or beaver on the way! I love living in the country...

That's a Ferro Concepts sling.

And the barrel was imported through Prophet River. I also purchased an S&J Hardware 18.6" dimpled match 223 Wylde barrel, I might give that a try depending on how the Rise barrel shoots.

That's exactly the build I have in-mind but I'm on the lookout for a light 18.6 Wylde barrel with a midlength gas system. Running out of lightweight black options so I may end up with a MRA stainless match grade. I would like to come in >6lbs unloaded with iron sights but that MRA barrel is 900g!

Does the MDI take a standard AR trigger guard? The Magpul trigger guard might look a little better and give a little more space in there for gloves.
I hope that barrel shoots as good as it looks. Where is the follow up range report?

Think you got it backwards, why would you want it to be over 6 pounds unloaded? I know you meant to say < 6 pounds?

Wow that is a beauty! Thumbs up.

Very nice rifle. Those hand guards are insane, I had the same difficulty installing mine (they are -tight-). Also put the same V7 brake on my 10.5.... Made my ears ring with muffs on.

Good looking rifle and on the lighter end of the scale for sure.

I was really torn between that hand guard and the carbon fibre, in the end I went carbon but I'm sure the V7 magnesium was lighter.
