With all this talk about about jams in 870s, what book is the best training aid for learning the manual of arms for this shotgun? Aside from loading and shooting, I am ignorent of the drills associated with this weapon and I would like to run mine to their peak effectiveness.

Cheers

re drills

The IA's (drills) for the 870 are pretty simple..practice lots or quick loading/Unloading and clearing obstructions..not much else unless you stick the end in the ground..keep it clean and lubricated and it should work very well..this weapon has a great reputation...Like the other guys said practice and shoot lots..
Have fun
Night Sky

Night Sky covers the fundamentals. If you can get into 3 gun matches or IPSC shotgun it'll teach you a lot about what works and doesn't - especially under the stress of competition.

This book is available from Amazon.com and is OK.
Tactical Shotgun: The Best Techniques And Tactics For Employing The Shotgun In Personal Combat by Gabriel Suarez (Paperback - Sep 1996)

Paladin press sells a DVD/video entitled Combat Shotgun but I haven't seen it. However Lewis Awerbuck has an excellent reputation.

amazon.com has lots of other books - just do a search under "Combat shotgun"

buy cheap loads and get into reloading

like your mother allways said practise practise practise

unless you a ganger cop or in military it's a tool not a weapon

Sorry about calling the 870 a "weapon". In my defence, we had one in the back of our LAV overseas and it is just a habit on my part as vice something nefarious. That said, thanks for the links, I will check them out.

Cheers

OMG this could get good. Ahem.....guns are weapons........pencils cause spelling mistakes........spoons make you fat.........:D

Personally, I think avoiding calling a gun a weapon is kinda caving to the antis; if you assume that there's something wrong about owning weapons and resort to semantic wankery to camouflage that, they've already won a victory.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with owning personal weapons. I own several, and I see no reason to hide this (note my .sig :) ).

Maybe the simplest way around this would be to simply call the gun what the antis say it is: a deadly concealable high-powered semi-automatic assault pistol, a terrifyingly devastating close-range combat shotgun capable of blasting cop-killer slugs through cars, a deadly high-powered long-range precision sniper weapon, etc... :runaway:

If we adopt their hysterical terminology of terror, it'll take one of their best weapons out of their hands and neutralize it. Sometimes sarcasm can be really effective, and if the fencesitters hear us using those terms laughingly, the next time Wendy uses them they won't have quite the same impact...

Nicely stated!
