Hi,

I think I'm in dire need of a good guide on the art of precision shooting. There is such a gap between what you folks know, and what I currently know, that I'm struggling to parse the terminology.

I found one book online, by Nancy Tompkins called "precision and long range rifle shooting" but I'd like to know what else I might read.

Thank you,

Rob

Try some ORA shoots in your area and you'll get some good advice and practical demonstrations.

These are the last three books I've read and heartily recommend:

Applied Ballistics for Long Range Shooting - Litz
The Wind Book for Rifle Shooters - Miller/Cunningham
Handloading for Competition - Zediker

"Precision and long range rifle shooting" is a very good book. It covers a lot of fundamentals and educates you when it comes to equipment choices. It is geared a bit towards US High Power style of shooting but I found about 90% of this book realy aplicable toward Canadian Palma, Precision and Long Range.

"Precision Shooting at 1000 Yards" is pretty good, as is "A varmint Hunter's Odyssey", although some of the same articles appear in both. Anything written on the subject by David Tubb should not be ignored. Sinclair International's "Precision Reloading and Shooting Handbook" is a good reference, as is "Precision Shooting Reloading Guide". While not solely a study of precision shooting, John Plaster's "The Ultimate Sniper" is worth owning. The Sinclair International catalog lists several books on precision shooting and rifle accuracy such as "Prone and Long Range Rifle Shooting," "Rifle Accuracy Facts," "Extreme Rifle Accuracy," "The Bench Rest Shooting Primer," and Accurizing the Factory Rifle". I highly recommend the books and video set from Jim Owens at jarheadtop.com as a marksmanship training guide although it is weighted towards service rifle shooting with the M-14 and AR-15.
