I've done a search and have read on the boots mentioned so far. I'm not looking for "brand names" but more features preferred or required in a boot. I plan to use the boot in the woods (Southern Ont) from Oct 1 thru the winter. My concerns are boot height and insulation value. I don't want my feet to sweat nor freeze. Is there a hppy medium that you find work or will I be looking at two pair?

Also, what do you guys use for foot wear for duck hunting? My guess is an insulated rubber boot. Any other foot wear work?

are local liqudation city has the muck boots on sale for a good price .thy are like a rubber boot but much mre comfy i love them for duck hunting and trapping DUTCH

Thanks Dutch. They are very similar (if not the same) as a pair I saw in our local discount shoe place. It's nice to know they work well. The hiking boots are in so many styles and insulation factors, time to close my eyes and guess!

LaCrosse Burly rubber boots, will meet all of your expectations.

They are: warm, ankle-fit (easy walking), water proof, durable, scent limiting, good traction.

What kind of location are you hunting in? I agree with the Muck boots for slightly mushy areas although they are not great with ankle support. Any higher end insulated boot will work for that.

Woods and fields mostly is what the main goal is (Deer). I want to try duck and geese this year, have a couple guys who have offered to take me. I hope they come thru.. That's why I wonder what to wear then as well. I don't want to be completely unprepared! My main goal is a hiking boot. Wondering about lace height, insulation values.

I don't know how well they will suit your need, but I love my Meindl's. Best boots I've ever owned. Tend to be a little pricy though. I think it would be worth checking out their product line and seeing if you have any dealers in your area. Cheers.

For land hunting I like my Danner Pronghorns. They are unlined, but I find that I can mix and match socks to make them warm for hunting right through the fall. If it is wet, Sorel has a pair of rubber boots with liners that fit extremely well for walking IMHO, not too heavy, nice fitted heel.
