can anyone reccomend a bore brush for a crusader 9? all of the bore brushes ive seen are very small for a pistol.
new to shooting

Thanks!

lol.
You are needing a bore brush for the diameter of your barrel, not whether it is suitable for pistol / rifle.

If it's 9mm (.355/.356 diameter), get a 9mm bore brush.

Sorry maybe i didnt word that properly. The length of rope/brush the to pull through the barrel seems shorter than the larger rifle ones. My concern is that it is not long enough to go in and come out the other end so i can pull it through. Thats why i said they were for pistol. Thanks for the help!

I use one of these; https://www.realavid.com/product/bore-boss/

A couple of passes through when I clean my GHM9 and it's perfect.

Interesting you mention this. I bought a few of these a couple of years ago and while initially the idea was innovative (who wouldn't want an all-in-one), practically mine had a few problems. The 9mm one was a real tight fit and the metal cable piece ended up getting a permanent kink. The .22 version that I had for my bolt actions - it only works on most of my .22s - for my CZ, it doesn't go through at all. Very strange, maybe it was defective... I generally like the RealAvid products.

But my bigger concern after looking at these is the cloth part - unless you wash and clean the cloth part of the snake each time, it's just going to bring crud captured from one gun to another. Like using a soiled cleaning patch from one gun to the next.

I have since gone back to my traditional rod and attachment based cleaning kits with the individual sized brushes/jags/mops, etc. and get the corresponding cleaning patches (ie. for the 9mm carbine, I use the .35 cal patches) to use each time. It's less convenient but there's more control over the cleaning process and each gun has a fresh patch going through it that is sized correctly.

Hi Alexwalker 706. I own a Crusader 9 Liberator 9mm upper (as well as the 5.56mm Sentinel upper) and I typically use a cleaning rod. However, because I noticed that the PCC direct blowback action is very dirty compared to my other gas-piston rifles, I bought a 9mm rifle length bore snake for quick cleaning when I don't feel like or have time for the more extensive bore-brush/jag/cleaning rod process. I believe it is a Hoppes product, but I haven't looked at it lately. I will look at it when I get home. There are rifle/carbine length 9mm boresnakes out there for sure. I bought mine at Al Simmons gun shop in Hamilton.

I was very pleased with how clean the snake gets the bore - I think I will still use a cleaning rod and brass cleaning brush + jags and patches for more thorough cleaning, but for quick cleanups after a couple of range sessions, it's very easy to use.

Bore snakes aren't bad so long as it's remembered they are a consumable. A couple dozen uses, then replace when they get snaggy or show visible fouling. Maybe the equivalent to 100+ patches in surface area?
I find them convenient in the range bag or for a quick run through after a light session. But I wouldn't use only a snake for a deep clean (which I am trying to do less).
