The BoreBuddy 22 LR hollow pointing die fits any reloading press with standard 7/8″-14 threads and allows you to add a hollow point, fragmenting point, or flat point to 22 LR ammo of your choice. Running ammo through the die will bump the bullet diameter close to SAAMI maximum for accuracy and consistency. Punch depth is user adjustable allowing you to tune expansion/fragmentation/Flat point characteristics to your use case.

In addition to making the diameter uniform, the nose profiles offer the following characteristics:
  • Fragmenting Point: Rapid expansion with 4 petal fragmentation at sufficient velocities that is enhanced by 1:12 twist (or faster).
  • Hollow Point: Controlled to Rapid expansion depending on HP depth
  • Flat Point: Consistent holes on paper targets, deep penetration. Potentially increased BC.

Okay I have to ask, why not buy the hollow point 22LR ammo that one might need?

Or buy fragmenting 22LR ammo you may need?

Can't wait to hear the answers on these questions!.........:)
They are typically high velocity, like 1200 plus. Or some of the fragments ones are like 710, what if you want high end standard velocity hollow points. I don't often see match ammo with hollow points.

And another reason is some people have fun with their rifles and like trying new/ different things.

Very interesting!

It also claims to help with accuracy/ consistency:

Running ammo through the die will bump the bullet diameter close to SAAMI maximum for accuracy and consistency.

Plus adjustable shape/depth allows you to create things that aren't available or are pricey.

I watched some videos of a guy doing some testing with the flat nose point and it seemed to get marginal accuracy increases. It's not going to turn 2" groups in to 1/4" groups.

I picked one up this morning. I took a box of Geco ammo and played around a little bit. I did 20 hollow points, 20 fragmenting, and 10 flat nose. I will probably play with the flat nose a bit, more so out at the range. I have a Lee hand press and did everything on that. Easy and portable, and I can make them right on the tailgate of the truck.

I have a brick of this Geco which shoots on par with my SK Match, at least at 50 yards, with my 20" factory HB Bergara B14R. I'm very curious to see if it really lives up to the claims, and to see what kind of accuracy effect, and potential lethality on gophers with ammo that is proven through this particular rifle.

Looking forward to hearing how it works out for you Scott, maybe you can try and catch some of them in water jugs and compare the results?

Definitely a possibility if I remember. With the latest dump of snow locally, the wife isn't to interested in heading out right now, despite just putting a 22 together for her.

I bought one of these and wanted to give it a fair test before commenting.
My "go to" plinking round is CCI SV in a CZ457 and it shoots well for me. Not half an inch at 50 yards good, but "one minute of gopher" good as someone else said.
I wanted to see if I could turn those into viable HP rounds and I'm pleased to say that I can. Four hundred rounds in without any appreciable change in accuracy at 50 yards. I didn't expect to turn chicken sh*t into chicken salad with this and I didn't. I was hoping to be able to maintain accuracy and I did.
I'm about $360.00 into this (tax and shipping in) including a low end LEE reloading press. I can buy 1,500 rounds of of Eley 38gr subsonic HP (which I like very much) for about $390.00 before tax. So I have to ask myself if it's worth spending that kind of money on this hollow pointing die setup. Spoiler alert - it is. LOL I really enjoy fooling around with this kind of stuff and for the pleasure it gives me, it's money well spent.
