What's everyone using for bore guide and one piece cleaning rod easily available in canada? Bought a savage 110 tactical 308 with 24" barrel and want to do this right. Just been using cheap crap on my other rifles up until now.

From prophet river, currently using this on my savage 308

Dewey coated rod
Dewey bore guide
Dewey jag
Dewey reducing adaptor
Got many nylon cheap brushes which fit with reducer (also purchased at prophet)
Wipe out accelerator
Wipe out patch out

The nylon brush is just to get the wipeout foaming once its been applied with a patch.
6-7 passes and the bore is full of soap suds

Tipton or Dewey will work fine, but they used different jags that aren't compatible without an adapter.

I've never bothered with a bore guide.

I have bore guides that I always use. Several are custom fits with "O" rings to seal at the chamber end
to prevent solvent from getting back into the action.
I use Parker-Hale or Dewey Coated rods with the adapters so I can use readily available brushes/jags.
Avoid jointed rods like the plague. Uncoated stainless is better than any aluminum rod.
I prefer Butches Bore shine as a solvent, but for very tough copper removal, I use KG-12.
Whatever you use, remember to clean from the breech if at all possible. Watch the muzzle!! Any
wear or damage there will cause your accuracy to go south in a hurry.
Avoid bore snakes unless you wash them after each use. Best not to use them at all. Dave.

The nice thing about Dewey is just ordering direct from their web site.

You'll get all correctly threaded components.... not a mix and match of different brands with different threads.

I dont clean my guns at all unless they start acting up and never had any visible damage.

I do use a Dewey rod when I have to :)

Don't clean very often. And I have my old barrels borescoped when they are replaced, never seen any signs of damage from cleaning.

I must say I agree. 6mm barrel lasts 1600-2500 rds depending on chambering so maybe 10 cleanings over its life.

I am not ramming the cleaning rod in there with reckless abandon.

Dewey rods are what I use.

x2 - I am at 378 rounds since my last clean and I am still getting 1/2inch or less repeatably at 100m.

I use a Dewey rod as well, but dont use a bore guide because I slide my rod in from the muzzle to the chamber and then spin on the brush or whatever Im using. Then pull everything out from chamber to muzzle.

Was this a kit?

I've been running the Tipton deluxe bore guide and it works really well along with a Tipton Carbon fiber rod. Althought I think I will be ordering a pro shot products solid rod once I can find them locally. Pro Shot is my favorite cleaning supply company hands down.

I run all Tipton CF rods, have from .17hmr up to one for my .50 BMG, for bore guild I have a universal one that has different tips plus a AR bushing that fits pretty much all my guns except the .50, the one for my .50 is a delrin type with a o-ring.

I picked up some delrin rod and plan on making custom fit ones for my target guns on my little lathe, not much to them.
