I bought a bore sighting kit a while back on sale at Bass Pro Shop. It's by no means an expensive set, but my intention was to get the scope 'close' then finalize at the range.

I've had mixed results so far. One of the issues I seem to have is the guide doesn't seem to hold the bore sight device upright. I have very delicately balanced it while having the rifle in a rifle rest, then tried adjusting in to it. Also, not sure if it is even properly 'centered'.

Also, on my AR I bought a knock off 4/32 with scoping and red dot accessory. The red dot is so far off I couldn't hit an IPSC target with my AR at 25 yrds. Thinking of trying to bore sight it. Can you bore sight a red dot?

What are the tips and tricks to bore sighting successfully? Is an 'expensive' kit the way to go? Is there a big difference between the $40-$60 one that I bought?

Thanks in advance for your experience and knowledge regarding this!

Easiest way to bore sight, is to look thru barrel and adjust scope so it's pointing in similar direction.

For the ar remove upper from lower then remove bcg and bore sight.

Biggest thing is making sure your looking thru the bore without any parallax error. The barrel should be evenly dark all around.

Those laser boresighters are a waste of money.
