So after some dinking around over the past week, I've managed to get my cheap, probably crappy NcStar BUIS, and my DMS-1 all mounted up on my new Oracle and have enough room to get my meathooks on the charging handle (as much as I've fallen in love with the AR15, it's still too damned small.)

Eye relief is good, cheek weld is good enough to not need a riser on the stock (despite running a riser rail in conjunction with the cantilever mount to get enough height to clear the rear iron when folded down) but that is still subject to change, as is the possibility of going from standard handguards to a railed fore-end.

Front sight of course is sitting on the low profile gas block. Rear sight is all the way to the back, with the riser butted up to it. The riser allows me to keep the scope far enough back to get proper eye relief. I tried running everything without the riser, but then I don't get proper eye relief. Needless to say, Co-witnessing is out of the question.

Now I know I'm going to be given a hard time for running such ####ty irons, but they're a back-up, plain and simple. I hope to never use them, but I want them to be zeroed (or at least close enough) in case I do have to pull the scope off. Truth be told, there wasn't much for BUIS options at the LGS I picked this up from, and even if I did spend big dollars on irons, I'm still in the same spot as I am with the crappy ones.

From what I've figured out so far, the front sight takes care of elevation (how the hell do you turn that thing anyways?) and the rear is a dual-aperture (one fine, one more like a ghost ring) with windage adjustments only.

I'll be shooting indoors at 40m tomorrow evening, and would like to at least be lined up on paper before sending rounds downrange. Setting up the scope was easy enough even without using my magnetic bore sighter (not enough metal for it to stick to and not slide/shift) but the irons are proving difficult. I'll be zeroing for real on the weekend, but I want to get it in the ball park tomorrow while I have a free evening.

Where do I start?

I have never bore sighted an AR but I gather you have a stable mount to hold your upper with BCG removed. Hope the indoor range has enuff light to come thru your .22 cal bore. You will need a front post tool (or tip of bullet). Find conspicuous target down range to set bore on, hold still upper and adjust sights to match target.

Not sure the setup at the indoor range is stable enough for the irons. It was just BARELY on paper when I did the scope originally (now that it's on a riser I'll have to redo it, hopefully the windage isn't too far out)

I'll see if I can pick up a front sight post tool, since it looks easier to handle with my paws. :)

Bore sight it at home. I did it on a bolt action hunting rifle with a scope once using a street light that was approx. 100 yds away. Worked great.
