Does anyone make a bottom metal that uses AW mags? I thought someone in Canada was doing it?

I think the AW design is far better than the AICS design unless you like having the long mags.

Good luck getting the aw to feed properly, not worth the effort or hassle. Too many variables to #### with, it was designed for the aw rifles and that's where it shines. The aics mag works, nuff said.

Yeah, your action needs to be modified to properly work with AW mags. There are a number of custom action makers that have designed their feed-ramps with this in mind. A Remington 700 can be modified, but very few people are willing to perform the work.

I'm very aware of that and they still don't feed worth a dam, it's a very hit and miss proposition. I'm seen a fair share of individuals go the aw route with the modded receiver and not have them feed successfully. AICS mags work, I'd stick with what works.

I remember "Lowlight" from Snipers Hide saying the exact same thing...stick with aics mags.

Modifying an action for them is hit and miss. However, there are M700 style actions that were designed to use them. Defiance and Stiller offer them, as do others.

We not only build a bottom metal that works flawlessly with the AW style mags , our short action are also designed to employ them and they feed flawlessly.
Mod-ing a 700 seldom works with the double stack mags.
The biggest problem with the AW mags, is supply, or lack there of.

On the same note, has anyone had any experience with the Alpha Industries double stack, center feed AI-style mags? http://www.alphaindmfg.com/index.html

They offer them in WSM cartridges, and fit AI-style DBM's which is what I'm going for. Probably have to clean up the feed ramp on the action I'm guessing? (Stock SPS SA)

Had some Alpha mags. Not a great mag. Yes, they're short, but are made of thin metal and don't have enough structural support. When loaded to capacity, you have to lay them on a flat surface and press the side down because they sometimes buldge and won't fit in Badger bottom metal.

AI/Accurate mags work a lot better.

I'm not worried about length so much as A) Capacity B) functioning for a WSM round, C) the Alpha will take a longer loaded cartridge than AI mag. I don't have any experience with any of these mags, can AI mags be modified to load longer rounds, and to function with WSM rounds? Thanks for the info, it's very helpful for a newb. :)

Look into Accurate Mag magazines. Their mags have the front plates removed (you can remove it on AI) and they have a dedicated WSM mag. Good mags! Savage and Ruger use them in their rifles. Don't know about the WSM one though. But, there is someone working on bringing them in.

Do you know who that might be, just so I can keep my eye out? I've emailed AM about max COAL for their magazine, I may end up trying both theirs and Alpha's just to see how they'll work. My DBM is CDI, not sure if it will make a difference for fitment. Right now with the 165 Gr Matrix VLD's I'm using, my go-to OAL is 2.9xx (don't remember off hand), different rifle I know, but I'd hate for the mag to be my limiting factor for accuracy, especially given I hunt with this setup, not just target.

Thanks again,

TT
