Yes I searched already but couldn't find an answer.
What is the best, all around, (price, function, mag availability etc...) detachable mag bottom metal for a Rem 700 5R with the HS stock?

I use PTG Stealth bottom metal. It supports the mag below the bottom of the stock and the front lip can be pressed against a barricade instead of the mag, which will often cause misfeeds with flush bottom metal. Pressing the mag against a barricade doesn't cause any misfeeds with the Stealth. I would like an even longer front lip, and serrations/teeth, but unfortunately no one makes one. If you look at the literature for the new Ruger Precision Rifle, they have designed the front of the magwell with this in mind: http://i.imgur.com/DwJzn0N.jpg

I got the same stealth PTG one as well. Bought it last boxing week sale from PTG for $163US with a 5rnd AI branded mag. I think it's regularly $195.

I see they have a T-latch option as well. Hmmmm

Mag availability is going to be the same in all but the HS and the Wyatts as they will almost always use the AICS magazine. Just about all of the bottom metal kits that use AICS will require inletting of some sorts. They will all be close in price find out what is important to you and purchase accordingly. Options include trigger guard style release vs lever style. Flush fit vs barricade stop. Ect. It's not a complicated piece of equipment and any big name will do. I almost always go with what I can find in stock at the time.

I have surgeon and badger bottom dbm's on my rifles. Both solid units. Having a barricade stop is not necessary imo, as you will have a bipod system to press the rifle against a barricade with if that's the type of shooting you will be doing.

You often don't have room to use the bipod when firing from confined spaces like the inside of a vehicle or from the framework under a simulated rooftop.

pod is too far forward...I use a noveske barricade stop on a rail just in front of mag well
