BOUGHT! a CZ 858, Anything i should know?

My buddies were trying to talk me into buying an AR, but after much thought and lots of time spent in the "red rifle" thread, combined with some youtube videos, i have decided to buy a CZ858. I want one in non restricted because i dont want to be limited to ranges. I really like the cost and avail of 7.62, i also have a few thousand rounds on hand :) I have owned a few SKS's and still have one and really enjoy it, fun to shoot, simple to strip down and fun to clean. I really like the "utilitarian" look of the 858, i think it has a unique combination of Beauty and Badass. I will be getting this rifle around christmas time when i go to the inlaws in Edmonton, i have gift certificates to Cabelas" that ive been hording and i think this will be the perfect purchase. What i want to know is, should i look for anything specific when picking one of these rifles? Is fixed stock or folding better? (i plan on changing the stock regardless) I have been looking at Fab Defense products, are they good? other options?

First of all, great choice of firearm!!!
If you are replacing the stock then buy whoch ever one you could see being used at least for a bit. I have both fixed and folding stocks and both are great. My preference would be for fixed as you can always buy a folder anytime on thw EE.
Fab stuff is good, light weight and reliable just kinda costly for plastic.
 
you'll like it alot more than the sks... especially how much lighter it is and more accurate
- and to be truthful, i kinda like the beaver B stock ...its tough
 
That rifle is just badass. I would get the folding stock then you can put it anywhere. You could put it in a dry of on your side by side and definitely get the non restricted version then you can go and shoot watermelons and blocks of ice beer cans. Get a square piece of steel and put a chain on it and hang it from a tree or something you will hear it hit. You can usually find old cars to shoot up in the bush. You will have a blast with it and it is badass.

Some people get them painted black and shine them up. Take it out and shoot the crap out of it.

You could red dot it I don't have experience with a red dot on it but could be fun to buy a $50 one just to mess with.
 
Don't hesitate. You''l be glad you got one. All I've done to mine so far is the Fab Defense grip, and it's great. Seems a little pricey but it's a nice addition, and kind of a must, unless you have tiny hands. I have the folder, and before I shot it I was concerned that the short LOP would get me a hit on the nose, but I was amazed by the lack of recoil with this rifle. Having your face right up behind the reciever will not get you hurt. Also, I'm very impressed by the accuracy of this rifle. Go get one.
 
Absolutely recommend, great gun, reliable, accurate, fun to shoot. If you'll be changing the furniture, check out "Zahal Defense"
They have lots of products, individually or combos and very good prices. They are based in Israel but good service, frequent free shipping, no tax, etc. Get lots of ammo, you'll love shooting that thing and get sight adjustment tool, worth typically $5-$15 depending where you shop, most front sights are set too high.

Great choice of rifle! Zahal has great prices on fab gear which I recommend. Oh and Canada and isreal have tax free trade agreement! My 858 had problems but it took 1 week to have it repaired shipped from Alberta. Buy with confidence
 
Have an 858 and love it. I went with Zahal and was happy with the service and the pricing was great. I've swapped a few different stocks onto the Fab buffer tube that comes with the stock kits and settled on a MagPul ACS. It's a great fun rifle and it eats up the rounds quickly.
 
I was looking on Zahals site and am impressed with the prices and selection there .
To those who have purchased through them , was it a good experience ?
 
Thanks for everyone's input, Christmas can't come soon enough:) I think I'm going to go with the "beaver barf" stock, I like it better than the folder, eventually ill be switching to a fab defense setup anyways. I checked out Zahal and I think I'll be ordering through them for sure!

Cool choice. My buddy painted his and then did a custom cheek piece with it. Turned out quite nice but on Christmas Day I hope we get to see some pic's of your rig completed.
