VX-III 2.5-8x36mm

From Leupold site :

"The VX-III 2.5-8x36mm is the gateway into the world of mid-range magnification scopes. Useful for close cover as well as on more open terrain, it is an eminently adaptable scope that fits well with a variety of shooting requirements. Easily mounted close to the rifle due to its 36mm objective bell, it is excellent for those seeking a low profile optical sight."

I second the motion for a Leupold... the 2-7 rifleman is an inexpensve option... or if you want to step up to better lenses you can opt for a VXIII in a 2.5-8X36mm. They both have excellent eye relief which would be a bonus on a light rifle like the T-3.
Excellent choice in both rifle and caliber by the way.
Congrats.

You'll love your rifle..... for the money, these rifles shoot! I'd agree with BIGREDD, a 2 X7 scope might be a better choice for you. I have a Leupold VXII and they seem like a nice, bright scope for the money.

X2

These scope have a handy range finding feature for the longer shots, nice and compact and a perfect match for the 7-08.

Enjoy your new toy!

There is middle ground - he could go with a 2-7 VXII or a 3-9 VXIII.

I agree though that Leupold is the way to go ;)

the Leupold VXII 2-7x33 would be my first pick, followed by the 3-9x40 VXII

if you want to spend a bit less $$, the Elite 3200 3-10x40 would do good.

new toy.

im a fan of fixed power scopes for hunting.a leupold or nikon 6x42 .that would be a nice set up on your rifle..

X2!! I am a fan of that clear sturdy 6x42 Leupold, and have it on several hunting rifles. If you are concerned about low mounting, then the 6x36 will also work well. Regards, Eagleye

Another vote for a Vari-x II 2x-7x. Seems just about perfect on my Win Classic featherweight 7mm-08. I'd opt for the 2.5-8 VX-III if I had the cash though.

A lot of Leupold fans here, I don't disagree, they are great optics. However, I'll dare to be different.

I love my Zeiss Conquest MC in 3.5-10X 44 with a #20 Z-plex reticle. Great optics and a great all round scope for medium range and good for long range when you need it.

Price point is about the same as Leupold VXIII. I suggest you try to find the one that best suits you when mated with the rifle.
