Bought a Promag. Any advice?

I installed a new promag magazine into my SKS with ATI stock. I took out the firing pin to do a test and chambered some rounds. It seemed a little off center and noticed the rounds were skimming the side of the chamber, a slight hammer tap to the duck bill solved itand it feels solid but do you think its worth putting in shims. I'm just going to leave the mag in place and load with stripper clips. Anything else I should know before firing it?

The mag is probably getting hung up a bit. Take it out and you should see marks left by inserting the mag. File lightly in those areas and it should sort itself out.

Are these mags typically good and reliable?

I have three and they all work really well. I've had zero issues

They do work well! And well with the stripper clips too. The Buar mag I had was ok but just ok isn't good enough. Pleasantly surprised with the Promag.

im my opinion the promag are less good than the tapco one even if they look better and any aftermarket mag in metal will be junk or close of it

If Tapco would make a short mag I'd give it a try. Just nut a fan of a big banana mag that does nothing.
