Picked up this 1953 Tula SKS from Gagnon Sports in Oshawa after getting my PAL! All matching serial numbers, though its missing a bayonet sadly (have one coming in the mail however).

Haven't shot it yet, but plan on doing that ASAP. Only thing I don't like is that the receiver cover is a little loose and wobbly...but I assume that's normal for an SKS?

It looks nice. Don't shoot it with the cleaning rod in it until you get your bayonet, otherwise you might see it go flying off! You'll also want to get an adjustment tool for your front sight.

Cool user name too! Conan fan?

The receiver cover is ok, mine wobbles a little too. Remove the cleaning rod, give it a good cleaning, and get shooting! Great CGN handle. I am a big Conan fan.

Why no bayonet I wonder , was it used or consignment? Hope they gave you a decent deal on it. Enjoy her.
Yeah, it's used. The previous owner also refinished the stock.

Thanks for the tip regarding the bayonet. Got an adjustment tool coming in the mail.

Yes I am, good eye catching that reference!

Firearms outlet Canada has lots of 7.62x39 surplus in Stock (at least they did when I was there last weekend) and they are awesome guys to deal with. Better start stockpiling it now! SKS are a lot of fun to shoot!

Glad to see another member from Toronto as well! Our numbers are growing!

I had to grind a little off one side to clear the sight hood, not at all painful and works just fine :)

Same, I had to hit mine with a file to remove the 90 degree angle & allow the adjustment tool to sit properly against the front sight hood.

OP, congrats on your SKS purchase. They are LOTS of fun! And while guys slag them, it is hard to deny that the price point of the SKS, cheap ammo and suitability for plinking and hunting under 100m, makes them so attractive!

Cheers
Jay

I recently got my PAL and plan on getting a SKS as my first rifle too! How much did you get yours for?
Was on sale for $220 at Gagnon Sports in Oshawa. Seems I lucked out with the price, though it will be $240 actually since I had to order a bayonet separately. They are rising in price, especially the laminated stock ones from what I've seen lately.
