Bought my first Precision rifle, how would you rate the scope?

Found a new Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5CM for $1949 on sale. Should've asked first what scope to buy around $1000 for my budget. I ended up going with a Vortex Viper pst gen 2 5-25x50 EBR-2C FFP MRAD. It was marked down from $1599 to $1199. I have rarely shot anything over 100 yards but really look forward to dipping my toes in. No interest in competing or anything. Is the scope any good and what height rings should I be mounting it on? Thanks

Ok, that's good to hear. Reading some people saying to spend 2x what you did on the gun on optics had me a little worried. But for sure the gun will out shoot my abilities. Thanks

I mean if you compare it to a $3000 scope of course there will be differences.

A friend of mine has that scope and we just had to rezero it. He did drop it though

That set up will serve you well. A more expensive scope stays with you when you upgrade. Where as that scope will mostlikely be sold with the gun.

Appreciate the feedback. If anyone knows of a supplier in Canada that carries a straight vertical pistol grip I can't seem to find them anywhere. The Ruger precision take ar15 pattern pistol grips.

MDT vertical grips won't work, the RPR uses an AR15 safety and the MDT grips don't have a hole drilled in them for the spring and detent.
I ran an Anarchy Tuxedo vertical grip on mine, I didn't mind it. Tom at Gobigtactical carries them.

I buy from Near Manufacturing allot. When we talk scope height, Richard always seems to know what height I am looking for based on his knowledge of scope stuff.

If you pick a certain brand, you can probably contact the manufacturer and they can steer you in the right direction. People seem to be recommending MDT, Alberta Tactical Rifle. All Canadian businesses. Also a fellow member may have the same scope and be able to suggest what you need.

You should be able to get away with using low rings. I just mounted a 52mm optic with the Burris XTR low rings, and I have plenty of space around the scope. Plus the Burris rings provided me with an extra 30 moa cant for the scope to help reach out there.
My goal this year is to reach min 1500 M.

From what I have heard about the pst is not to use the zero stop, as you limit your overall travel internally for distance adjustability.

Thanks for all the info, I'll have look.
Edit: That Anarchy outdoors tuxedo grip was exactly what I was looking for thanks, just ordered.

When you order the vertical elite there’s an option of standard chassis or ar10/15 compatible. That’s not the case? I was thinking about getting one for my modern hunter

Burris XTR Signature rings with cant inserts will allow you to setup your rifle and scope to shoot long distance 700-1000 yds should you decide to do that. If you can take the rifle into a dealer that has low, medium and high rings you will be able to setup correct height above barrel/shroud. Having gone through this a half dozen times, it’s difficult to determine which height of rings are best. Or post on the precision posts asking anyone having your rifle and scope combo and what rings they are using, may save some time.

I believe the Ruger comes with a 20MOA rail, worth confirming. It will give you an idea if you want to add more cant via scope rings.

Really depends how far you want to shoot out to and the total elevation available to the scope.

The ruger has an adjustable cheek weld, so height doesn't matter as long as it clears the barrel.

I stand corrected. The elite grip didn't exist back when I bought my vertical MDT grip to try on the RPR, and the non-elite didnt have the optoon. Back when I contacted MDT they told me that had no plans to offer a vertical grip that was "AR" compatible. Guess that changed.
I have a non-elite vertical MDT grip and honestly prefer the Tuxedo for the RPR anyway. It has a pronounced thumb shelf that the RPR chassis lacks. I did test fit a MDT vertical grip on my RPR, with the intention of drilling it, but the Tuxedo won out.

Hmmm, maybe MDT will change their "never going to do it" stance on their XRS and someday offer a LA version that will take 3.85" CIP mags?
