Bought my first rifle today

Watch out OP, the SKS has a sneaky way of multiplying in the safe!!!!! :d:d:d:

Make sure you read all the stickies up top of Red Rifles forum and clean that baby to within an inch of its life!! Especially take the bolt down and really clean that firing pin channel - that way you'll avoid the SKS slamfire.

Welcome to the Red Rifles club. I'm sure that SKS is only the first of many Red Rifles (I have 5 - like I said, they multiply)

I went to Cabelas and bought a 1953 refurbished Tula SKS in a laminate stock. Won't be able to shoot it for quite awhile but I love it! All numbers match except the magazine, and it's in pretty decent shape I think. Just thought i'd share!

Right on and congrats on the first rifle! I actually just got back from the range a few minutes ago, was sighting in a '53 Tula as well! I purchased it in November last year, but didn't want to brave the cold just for my fun gun! Put 130 rounds through it this morning, was shooting around 4moa, maybe slightly better. My eyes aren't what they used to be. That was Norinco new production stuff, I'll try some other surplus and Dominion ammo in a day or two and see if the groups get any better...or worse.

Anywho, enjoy your rifle and feed it well! ;)

Thanks guys! I'm pretty confident that it will be multiplying rapidly. I've got my eyes on a few others as well, vz52/57... a couple mosins... svt40.. eventually a vz58 with either wood or beaver barf stock.. if only my bank account would co-operate! I will definitely be adding some more sks as well. Can't wait to have her out and put afew (hundred) rounds down the pipe. Cleaning will be interesting to say the least, it's a bit of a different beast than the bolt actions I'm more accustomed to cleaning.

Yes those vz52/57 look pretty tempting. Too bad they cost so much. SVT's are still pretty cheap, not for long though. Check with tradex for the best prices on those.
