Well I broke down and bought myself a shiny new toy.
I had a chance to hold one of these the other day and I fell in love with it.
Was on the fence for awhile and couldn't decide between this and a Ruger Blackhawk 357/9mm.
Had a chance to compare both of them and SP101 just felt well balanced and comfortable in my hand.
I usually don't buy new but could not find a used one. I guess people that have them keep them.
 
I recently picked up an SP101 but in .22LR. Smallish in my hands, but new grips have solved that, easy to take down, but you have to be careful with the trigger group once you have it out - I was being careful to NOT pull the trigger, but I moved the trigger group at such an angle that the spring came shooting out. Luckily, it landed right in front of me or I think I would still be looking. Come to think of it, all my Rugers have springs that like to fly our....I digress.

Enjoy the shooting, I really like shooting my .357s.
 
That looks really nice! I'm glad they've gone back to the old GP100-style grips--they're my all-time favourite revolver grip.
 
I like the grips too. I can get a good grip on them with my pinky underneath the grip.
Probably will buy some wood grips later on down the road.

The SP 101 grips look similar but are a fair bit smaller.
The Hougue rubber grips don't look too bad on the stainless SP 101 and fit me like a glove which is nice for .357mag for .22 the small grip is fine.

I was looking at the Hogue rubber grips and I think I will pick a set up.
 
I treated myself to a gp100 about a year ago. I love it still and it gives me a grin from ear to ear when I shoot .357 American eagle loads. Tried some Wolff loads but they felt light compared to the AE. I've swapped the front sight for fibre optic and switched out the springs so far. Trigger job, new grips(I don't like the feel of the hogue ones) and a holster will complete an amazing revolver(IMHO). And probably a few more safariland speed loaders just for fun. Mine is a permanent addition to the family. Congrats on your new revolver!
 
I think if we were allowed to hunt/carry in this country and i was limited to owning 1 handgun (the horror) this would probably be my #1 pick.

Sigh... only criminals can do that in Canada of course.

I got the same revolver back in March and quite like it, although I'm embarrassed to say I've not shot it much; so far just with some mid-range .357 loads. I replaced the grips with the rubber Hogue grips (not the nylon, which look the same but are slipperier) and also did some basic internal polishing and replaced the hammer spring with a slightly less powerful one from Wilson Combat - can't remember the weight off the top of my head. Between that and lots of dry-fire practice, the trigger is pretty decent. Not a S&W, but quite decent One fellow here on CGN gave his a scathing review but he must have got a lemon as most seem to be pretty good. Mine had a couple of slightly sharp edges on the outside but those were easily tamed with a bit of 400-grit wet-and-dry paper.

Agreed that as a "kit gun" to pack in the woods it would be perfect (unless you were in bear country.) And the 3" version would be a nice wheelgun for CCW if it were allowed.
