Sorry to disappoint but this is not a puppy picture thread....yet
But I am curious if anyone on here is hunting over or knows some of their dogs? They seem like a good fit for my life and current hunting goals. Are they as capable a waterfowl dog as they are portrayed to be? I know that generally they aren't going to be a lab or chessie but at the same time they seem to have my old labs beat for chasing woodcock and grouse in the uplands. I know at the end of the day its going to come down to what I am willing to put into it with regards to training, and last but certainly not least how well do they get along with other dogs and children?

I visited Duchasseur a few years ago, not for his WPG's but for his Pudelpointers, and I see that Bourg's breeding stock are Duchasseur dogs. Steve Brodeur is/was a NAVHDA judge - you can be sure he knows his dogs. I wouldn't hesitate. Tell the breeder what you want - he/she should be able to pick an appropriate pup from an appropriate litter.

That breed is my dream dog, prefect fit for me. Also a rare breed, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. i'm told they tend to be a little headstrong when hunting, thinking they know better than you, and I was also told they're also probably right-they own the noses. One thing I'm sure about, you don't need a horse to follow one in the field, as with dogs that have been bred for that in the south. If you haven't seen it, I recommend this book for the history and philosophy of the breed, if you can find it in Canada (interlibrary loan should do it if all else fails): http://www.amazon.com/Griffon-Gun-D...&keywords=wirehaired+pointing+griffon+history

I bought a griffon from Griffon town kennel in April of 2014(I believe they are in the process of moving to New Brunswick). He is my first hunting dog and I couldn't be happier. I haven't hunted geese with him yet but I have seen many pictures on the breeders facebook page of their dogs retrieving geese. I don't have any experience with Bourg Royal's kennel but Pageska's Griffon town kennel was absolutely amazing. Molson has an amazing nose and personality. I've taken him to the local NAVHDA meet and he showed his amazing instincts and drive. I couldn't be happier and I'm looking forward to getting my second griff.
