I am new to archery I bought a used bow on kijiji. The bow itself seems great it is a bowtech sr6. My question is what parts should I look at upgrading in time. It came with an apex covert rest and bestinger stabilizer, and a trophy ridge fix 5 pin sight.

Change sight pins .010 if they aren’t already(aim small,hit small)
Go to a rip cord rest or a QAD rest
Get a release that attaches to your wrist,not the three finger with thumb release
Go to an archery store and get a lesson on proper form.it will pay off in the long run.bad habits are hard to break!!!!!!

Black Gold sight (brightest pins and best customer service out there), and as suggested,10 thou pins for further distances (50+ yards) help, but not necessary for closer distances and you can custom order. Another note on pin colour; we lose yellow ,then red and lastly green under low light conditions. I custom order my sights with just green and red pins, with 4 green and 3 red for 7 pin sights, and I set it up so that 20, 40, 60 and 80 are green and 30, 50 and 70 are red pins, and the top 3 pins are 15 thou and the bottom 4 are 10 thou pins. Makes it easier when in the field to ensure you have right pin on target.
I don't use a 10 yard pins as most hunting bows are hitting only a 1/2" high at 10 yards with a 20 yard pin.
The QAD drop away rest are the best hunting rest out there (quiet and reliable), and their customer service is also great,if there is ever any issue. When working as a bow tech, I installed over 1,000 HDX's over 4 years and never had a warranty issue with one.I did have the odd issue with their lower end models, but it was rare, and the company was quick to respond. Any issue that I ever encountered with the HDX is when someone else had not installed the timing cord properly in the first place.
Get a bow tech at your nearest archery store to ensure that the bow is set up correctly for you, as it MUST fit you properly, and as suggested, get a few lessons to aid in developing your shooting form. This is critical for best results and will increase your overall performance and enjoyment level. And make sure that you are using properly spined arrows for your set up.
Most common mistake I see new archers make is worrying about arrow speed. Use a range finder and learn to judge distance. It takes lots of practice. after that, your pins once sighted in will assist you with placing your arrow on your target accurately, not the speed. Speed flattens flight path arc and makes up for poor distance judgement, not accuracy.
A faster set up only aids in you missing faster!
Just remember, women and kids with less powerful bows shoot well and harvest game just as well as the men with heavier draw weights and faster bows, so speed does equate to overall performance.
